Checking out the new ‘affordable’ EV concept from Volkswagen

Volkswagen is churning out electric cars right now. And it helps that they have their modular electric drive matrix platform – dubbed MEB, on which they can pretty much put any body. So the latest car they have showcased, which is a concept car for now, is said to indicate what their small and affordable family electric car might be like. This is called the ID. Life. Now when we say affordable, they’re not joking, They’re talking about a 20,000 Euro price – about £17,000.

As for range, they’re claiming 400km about 250miles and 0-62mph acceleration in just 6.9 seconds, about what a hot hatch would do. Plus it uses a lot of natural and recycled materials in its construction with wood chips used a natural colouring agent for the body. As well as wood it uses bio-oil, natural rubber, rice husks and recycled PET bottles. Now if like me you’re thinking it looks a lot like Honda’s adorable little E, this one would be cheaper and with a longer range, but like the E, it would be a gaming centre with extendable projection screen and seats that can be reclined into a bed.
