How Much did Diesel Gate cost Volkswagen?
Get this, Volkswagen group has paid out nearly $24billion in fines in the last two decades, largely due to diesel gate – which is when they put emissions-cheating software in nearly 11 million vehicles around the world according to reports.
A survey by Diggity marketing found VW wasn’t alone. Daimler – ie Mercedes – get caught for doing much the same, and has been fined a total of £2.3bn since 2000. Other car companies that have been naughty and found themselves getting fined for one reason or another include Toyota at $1.6bn, Stellantis (which includes Vauxhall, Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler etc) was fourth on the list at $1.2bn. General Motors followed at £1.145bn. But if you look at the bigger picture, the motor industry was only fourth on the naughty list behind Oil and Gas fined nearly $46bn, Pharmaceuticals fined $56bn – worrying, especially in light of recent events. However the biggest culprit of all, is the financial industry – they’ve been fined a staggering nearly $332bn!! Better keep your money under your mattress – if you have any left, that is.
