British Elections June 2017

Great to see haughty arrogance and complacency fall flat on its face.

Awesome to see hope and optimism galvanise voting, particularly among the young. No more need for grudging acceptance and stoic cynicism – things can change!

Election results

BTW Labour got 40% of the votes. In the previous election in 2015 it achieved only 30%. You have to go back to 2001 for the last time it got 40% which was when Blair won his second term! In fact Blair won his third term with only 35%. So that puts into perspective Corbyn’s achievement. Credit where credit is due.

Vote for the kids!

When you hold that ballet paper in your hand, stop and think, not about yourself, but about our kids.

Vote for the kids

We should all vote if we can, but it’s time to stop voting for our own selfish reasons and spurious loyalties, and instead to vote for the benefit of the country, it’s people and particularly, the young people. Because quite simply, our future is invested in them.

Write him off if you must, but don’t ignore him

How is it we live in a world where all the political pundits tell us that a man who speaks of a just, fair, peaceful and hopeful future for us and our young has no chance of winning an election, whilst an out-of-touch, flighty, egomaniac focussed solely on strengthening her own power base (like her counterpart across the Atlantic) – to the obvious detriment of what we used to understand democracy to be – is a sure bet?

The Secret Lives of Muslims

The shocking truth of a future awaiting Muslims.

The Terrible Twenty-Tens

It’s going to take at least a decade for this cycle of prejudice, fear, resentment and hate to run its course. That’s if there isn’t a World War first of course. In which case we’ll all be dead soon anyway.

Terrible Twenty-Tens

Trump’s election is being compared to the rise of fascism and Hitler in Germany. But Trump and Brexit are the symptoms of the same social malaise – frustration, helplessness, resentment and hopelessness brought about by the apocalyptic economic avalanche of 2007, that’s still reverberating today – perhaps moreso than ever this year in particular.

Thinking about Trump – and what it means for us all

President Elect Trump. Wow. How did that happen? He’s a reality TV star and a billionaire business man with a very dubious track record and no political experience. He comes across as a vile and vulgar person, a bully, a thug, a potential villain in a Bond movie. He is now the leader of the most powerful nation in the world.

I’m flabbergasted. I’m appalled, I’m confused. But I’ve been reading and watching a lot of comments and opinions about this. And I think I’m starting to get it now.

And what’s becoming apparent is that we can’t blame Trump voters and supporters for this. I don’t think it’s their fault. It’s ours for ignoring them.

Look, just hear me out.
