The British Motor Show 2023

I just completed four days working at the British Motor Show in Farnborough

Just completed working four-days at the British Motor Show, 17-20 August 2023 at Farnborough International Exhibition Centre. Here’s part 1 and 2 of my walk around videos (shot the first on Day 1, and the second on Day 3). Read my preview of the show here.

This is how show-goers were greeted very morning at main gate just before being let in for the 10am opening!

Yup, it’s Paul Swift drifting the British Motor Show Coryton-fuelled Ford Mustang around the British Army Marching Band to the 007 theme tune!

There is just so much that goes on at a show like this – more than you can take in a day. In addition to what you see in the walk around videos above, there is the main stage hosted by Tim and Fuzz of Car SOS, the Live Arena hosted by Mike Brewer (joined this year by Alex Kirsten of AutoAlex), the drift taxi arena, the Motorsports arena where you got to see entry-level motorsports and crazy Car Football, as well as of course the Tech Hub hosted by me. I also hosted the VIP lounge each morning where we would introduce the hosts, celebrities and special guests at the show each morning.

Through the four-days sensational precision stunt driver, Paul Swift, attempted, set and then continued to beat his own new world record of five car stunts attempted in the least time. And one of the cars used was the brand new 2024 Ford Mustang Darkhorse, seen for the first time in the UK.

Drifting for wannabe hooligans – like me!

Ewbanks first in-person live car auction was also held at the show on Sunday afternoon.

You can also vote for Best Cars of the Year now – head over to https://www.bestcarsoftheyear.com – and you could see them at the show. Here we did a walk through of the contenders for the 2024 Award with motoring journalists, Mike Rutherford and Peter Lyon and looked at the Best Cars of the Year 2023 winner.

Motoring Journalist, Mike Rutherford, introduced Dr Andy Palmer as the newest Inductee to the Motoring Hall of Fame at the British Motor Show, here’s my quick chat with him. But we had much longer discussions as he attended two of my panel discussion sessions at the Tech Hub – ‘Is it the End of Ice’ & ‘Motoring in 2050’. There are few people in the world that have as much insight, understanding and experience as Dr Andy Palmer (former boss at Aston Martin and senior exec at Nissan – often called the Godfather of the Nissan Leaf!)

And if all the crazy action and multitude of cars all got too much for you, the British Motor Show, also saw the inaugurate of the Sensory Pit Stop – a place where you could just get away for a bit: chill, relax, take a nap, have a quiet meeting, do a little work. And who better to talk me around it than Autoism’s Leon Watts and his mother who was involved in the design of the facility.

Dave Reece Founder of School of Thought does amazing work in the UK and around the world, helping young people to get into the Automotive Industry. Here’s my interview with this hugely inspiration man at the show. But from the established trade and dealer’s showcasing new cars that have probably had about a billion dollars invested in their development, to the tradition of wacky British inventors and artists building their own cars in a shed!
