How is the cost of living crisis impacting motorists?

The cost of living crisis is having an impact on cars and motorists, affecting 70% of drivers motoring habits, according to a Kwik fit survey. Over 33% one-third have cut down on non-essential car journeys those driving petrol or diesel cars are twice as likely to have cut down compared to drivers of electric cars or hybrids.

Driving styles – 21 percent of drivers saying they consciously try to drive more smoothly and less aggressively, especially those driving EVs or hybrids. While 14 percent say they drive more slowly, the figure rises for long-journeys. Many drivers of EVs and hybrids have recently switched from diesel or petrol (17 percent) – in fact sales of used EVs more than doubled in the first quarter of this year. More EVs we’re sold in March this year than all of 2019! 4 percent simply got rid of their cars altogether – particularly true of younger drivers, aged under 35. In London alone 10 percent of all drivers have sold their car and not bought another. Working from home remains popular with 11 percent of drivers having continued to do so to save money. With traffic in 2021 have having exceeded pre-pandemic levels, it’s been found that traffic in 2022 is generally less. But if you’re thinking that all of this is going to slow down car prices, no chance. Lack of cars continues to drive prices up by over 32% for used cars years-on-year.
