The youth don’t want to drive it seems – here’s why
The number of young people is declining and road safety charity, IAM, RoadSmart, has been looking into why 17-24 year-olds are putting off leaning to drive.
Of 1,000 surveyed, cost concerns were rated as the biggest reason with the price of lessons and the drain on the wallet running a car can be, coming out as equal top issues at 29% of votes each. Even the high price of passing the driving test was putting people off (28%) and a fear of driving itself proved a problem at 26%.
Finding the right car and the time to take lessons were also mentioned by respondents, but only 14% felt they didn’t need a car to get round. One in ten were actually put off by family or friends recommending they shouldn’t learn to drive – who are these people?!
