Nearly New Cars Worth More Than Their Price New

Usually new cars lose thousands the moment they are registered, not now though

In my last video I talked about rising used car prices and sales thanks to data from Autotrader – I even listed the top 5 makes and models that have grown most in value year on year. But there’s another list – cars less than 12 months old worth more than the equivalent new car price. Yeah, I know, ridiculous right? Normally a new car loses thousands the moment you drive it off the forecourt.

However a slow post-covid restart of production, and a worldwide shortage of computer chips, semi-conductors and other components such lithium for batteries for EVs are slowing down new car production and reducing supply.

So new Land Rover Defenders are worth up to over 23% more than new ones with a long waiting list. Meanwhile the pocket-rocket GR Toyota Yaris can be up to 20% more, so buy it for 31 grand and sell for 37k!

Bizarrely there’s also the Dacia Sandero Stepway that jumps by 5.57% or about a grand. What even is that?

There’s also stuff like the Volkswagen ID3, Audi RS4 Avant, Volvo XC40, and Honda Civic – even though an all-new version is coming. Bonkers!
