All-new Fiat 500 is electric only with 200 mile range

Electric-only all-new Fiat 500

Fiat has revealed an all-new Fiat 500 which, despite similar looks, is a clean sheet design because it will only be available as an electric car.

Featuring an 42kW battery, which can be charged to 80% in 35 minute using a fast charger, it has a range of nearly 200 miles. With the equivalent of 117bhp it will reach a limited top speed of 93mph and accelerate to 62mph from rest in 9 seconds, but as with all electric cars, the initial acceleration will be quick with a 0-31mph time of just 3.1 seconds.

Fiat also claim this to be the first four-seat open top electric vehicle, as it’s offered with the traditional canvas roof in La Dolce Vita trim. And if you’re questioning whether it will really fit four people, it’s grown slightly and is now 60mm wider and longer with a 20mm longer wheelbase.

La Prima will be the launch edition, of which there will be only 500 priced from £29,000 and available in Mineral grey metallic, Ocean Green pearlescent and Celestrial Blue each representing the earth, sea and sky respectively.

It will have LED headlights, eco-leather upholstery, 17-inch diamond-cut wheels and a commemorative plaque. Safety features include autonomous braking, rear view camera, adapative cruise control and lane-keep and emergency call. Plus a new UConnect 5 infotainment system and full connectivity.

There will be three one-off specials to be auctioned for charity: the 500 Giorgio Armani, the B.500 ‘Mai Troppo’ (Never Too Much) by Bvlgari and the 500 Kartell.

No word, sadly, on where that leaves the high-performance Abarth versions of the car.
