First time I drove a Rolls-Royce

#FlashBackFriday to the first time I drove a Rolls-Royce around 1989-1990 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Yes it doesn’t have a number plate, that’s because it was brand new obviously- duh! 😜

Reviewing a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit in my first couple of years as car journo wasn’t bad going I’d thought.

Sadly I don’t have a picture – or more pertinently – video of the late-70s Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I was wheel-spinning at every junction just a few weeks later!

I’d gone to an auction with a dealer friend where he’d bought a Mercedes 280 SL and the Shadow, I volunteered to drive the Rolls back, finger twirling the too-light steering, blasting the stereo and shredding the already bald rear tyres – was this shrieking lady previously owned by Sheik Abdul ben Falafel?
