The original Lotus Esprit is also there at the Piccadilly showroom – let’s be honest, that’s what I really went to see!
Lotus is exhibiting its extraordinary Theory 1 concept car at Lotus London in Picadilly opposite Green Park station, along with prototypes of the materials used on the car, as well as the original Lotus Esprit S1 that inspired it, also featuring an original technical drawing of the Esprit and secret spec sheet from 1973! I’m posting this video on Friday 27 September 2024, and the exhibit will remain till Sunday 29 September 2024 – so hurry over this weekend to catch it.
Here’s some details on the new concept car: The Theory 1 concept car, showcases a significant step towards the future of intelligent performance vehicles. The new car reflects Lotus’ updated design philosophy, dubbed The Lotus Theory, which integrates three key elements—Digital, Natural, and Analogue.
The concept blends cutting-edge technologies with Lotus’ hallmark performance engineering, aiming to deliver an immersive and intuitive driving experience.
Theory 1 features innovative tech, including the proprietary driver system LOTUSWEAR™, developed in collaboration with MotorSkins. This system employs adaptive soft robotic textiles to enhance the driving experience through haptic feedback. For instance, pulses on the steering wheel guide drivers during turns, while the five drive modes—Range, Tour, Sport, Individual, and Track—adapt based on the driver’s environment.
Additionally, the LOTUSWEAR™ Technology Line introduces OLED displays and LiDAR sensors for a fully integrated experience. Lotus also emphasises sustainability in Theory 1 by using only ten main surface materials, including recycled components, to create a lighter and more environmentally friendly vehicle.
The concept aims to minimise distractions through an intuitive interface that combines digital projections with haptics, allowing drivers to stay focused on the road. Overall, Theory 1 encapsulates Lotus’ commitment to evolving its engineering and design for future electric performance cars, blending high technology with natural, human-centred interaction.
