Conversation with Ben Marshall of DadCars at NEC Classic Motor Show
At the 2024 NEC Classic Motor Show, I had the pleasure of chatting with Ben Marshall, the man behind DadCars, a YouTube channel with a mission to show that family life doesn’t have to mean giving up on exciting cars. With four kids in tow, Ben’s out to prove that petrolhead parents don’t have to trade passion for practicality.
What DadCars is All About
DadCars is not your average car channel. Ben’s reviews focus on sharing the joy of driving with family. From Ferraris to quirky classics, his videos capture his journey of making lifelong memories with his kids. It’s no just about cool cars, it’s about the memories and connections that cars create.
Ben started DadCars to document these moments, a project he calls “priceless.” His channel has since inspired parents who refuse to settle for boring SUVs or crossovers, showing them that with a little creativity, they can make almost any car work for family life.
The DadCars Family Zone at NEC
At the NEC, Ben created a ‘DadCars Family Zone’ where kids could engage with car culture hands-on, from colouring activities to scavenger hunts for car badges. For many young visitors, it was their first close-up encounter with classic cars – exactly what Ben hopes will spark a lifelong love for motoring.
Why the Next Generation Matters
Ben believes we need to inspire kids now if we want motoring culture to survive. “In 20 years, classic cars might be seen as polluting relics,” he noted. By exposing children to the beauty and craftsmanship of these cars, Ben hopes they’ll grow up with an appreciation for car heritage, which will help keep these classics on the road.
Keeping Dreams Alive
Redefining what makes a family car, DadCars shows that parenthood doesn’t have to come at the expense of automotive passion. Whether he’s strapping car seats into Aston Martins or road-tripping with his kids in a Renault Avantime, Ben is keeping car culture alive, one family adventure at a time.
