Manual Gearboxes Coming Back!

I prefer manual gearbox. I learned to drive cars, age 16, with the manual gearbox as my late father (a retired Metropolitan Police Traffic Officer Class 1 Driver and before that a Senior Aircraftsman who drove heavy vehicles for moving jet aircraft parts about between RAF Germany Stations Gutersloh and Wildenrath) advused me to pass on manual and own manual gearbox cars as the automatics in those days were a real pain if something went wrong.

I have only driven an automatic once and that was an Opel Manta 2.0GSi which I was bringing to my local hospital to leave it in the carpark for a friend who owned it so that he could drive it home upon discharge that night. I also had to drop off his wife (a superintendent of nurses for BUPA) who would act as co-driver in case my friend needed to take a break. The Opel was not bad (a tad heavy to handle compared to my Ford Capri Series III 1.6 ‘Laser’, a manual gearbox car).
