Doctor Who tackles Partition

Another landmark episode – that’s two incredibly moving and powerful stories already, in a single new series with a ground-breaking new Doctor

This one was an incredibly brave topic, a rare foray into a difficult and disturbing part of history not often attempted even by serious mainstream drama – and this from a sci-fi fantasy show.

It was also deeply relevant and personal to almost all British Asians – it’s so satisfying to finally see our stories being told sensitively and maturely rather than what is usually the case.

‘Demons of Punjab’ was a heart-wrenching, thought-provoking and yer inspiring episode which, like Rosa before it, encapsulates the new Doctor’s most ardent rallying cry: ‘Hope’.
