Groovy Dreams & Greasy Spoons – the 1970s are Calling

Is it time to Bring Back the Cool, but Without the Cruel?

There was a time, baby, when chrome was king and cars were wide enough to land Hueys on. The soundtrack? Funk, soul, rubber and the rumble of lethargic V8s echoing through neon-lit nights. Oh and James Brown, obviously. Can you dig it?

We wore flares, wide collars and big, big hair – and somehow, it all just… worked. The world was a heady cocktail of greasy spoons, dodgy diners, and roller-skating waitresses carrying trays dripping with as much cooking fat as endless optimism – even as the darker truths of the era simmered just beneath the deep shag carpeting in our Boogie Vans.

Back then, we knew what we knew – and we didn’t know any better. There was innocence in our enlightenment, swagger in our self-belief, and yet, the shadows of chauvinism, prejudice, and toxic masculinity loomed large. Heavy.

It was a time of gritty glamour – a psychedelic dance of contradiction. A kaleidoscope of hope crashing into reality, as we strutted about in bell-bottoms and platform shoes.

And yet, somehow, the 1970s are still irresistibly funky.

So here’s the dream: let’s bring back the soul, the style, the sheer charisma of the 70s – but bin the baggage. Imagine Cadillac land yachts and the Daimler Double-Six reborn on modern EV skateboard platforms, humming silently through city streets, dressed in metallic lime green and trimmed in chrome.

Give us faux leopard-skin upholstery – or better yet, butter-soft fine Corinthian leather – pillowy rides, and those long, low silhouettes that ooze presence and panache. Elegance with efficiency. Style without the smog. Charm without the chauvinism. Far out!

Let’s revive the era when cars had character and men had sideburns. Let’s order a burger, fries, and a cherry-topped shake from a girl on skates – but this time with equal pay, respect, and agency.

Bring back the cool without the cruel. We don’t just want to relive the 70s – we want to remix it. With hindsight. With heart. And with actual horsepower this time.
