Could this be a Disaster for the Car Industry?

Volkswagen is killing the VW Golf (including the GTI), Mercedes-AMG is killing the V8, and enthusiast cars are going electric, they should still be fun, but in the long-term is this bandwagon-jumping going to prove a disaster for the car industry?
