So um… BEHOLD the iconic original BMW M3 based on the classic hewn-from-Vibranium E30 3 Series, that vanquished fields of touring car competitors, slew its Mercedes 190E arch nemesis, and has ever since sat on the thrown of most-wanted modern classic BMW.
It’s a limited edition sister car to the Speedback GT that was introduced five years ago – a hand made, coach built performance grand tourer based on a Jaguar XKR platform and drivetrain. The Silverstone represents the company’s move to its new headquarters opposite Silverstone Race Circuit. Beautifully built, enticingly expensive, remarkably rare – only 10 of the 100 Speedback series cars will be Silverstone editions. And I’ve driven one!

Back in 1991, two years on from my very first car review (the one that got me arrested) I reviewed this actual GMC Jimmy S-15. And this time I nearly drowned in it, along with two of my best buddies, who will remain unnamed even though if we had met our watery demise it would have been on them – I was only the numpty behind the wheel after all!
