Invasion of Illegal Aliens, Shariah Law in London, Climate Change a Hoax – Time to Set the Record Straight
Today, United States President, Donald Trump, stood before the United Nations and gave a speech that can only be described as equal parts dangerous, delusional and daft. He ranted about an “invasion” of illegal migrants in Europe, accused London of wanting to implement Sharia law, and dismissed climate change as a hoax. It was a greatest-hits collection of fear politics, fake news and frikkin lunacy!
Last time he presented to world representatives at this esteemed venue in 2018, listeners sniggered. This time, no one was laughing – apart from when he jokingly complained about the teleprompter not working and being stuck on the escalator (some brave soul in that building was clearly trying to thwart the nonsensification of this noble – if ineffectual – institute).
No guffaws though. These envoys sit stung into impotence, having seen what this bull in a china shop is capable of if he doesn’t get his candy and can’t play with his toys.
They’ve witnessed what tariffs, trade wars, sanctions, and unilateral withdrawals look like in practice. Whether it’s NATO, climate treaties, or global markets, Trump has proven he’s willing to destabilise at a whim. That unpredictability forces leaders to treat him with caution because they fear the fallout. With Trump in the room, everyone is walking on eggshells as one outburst can crash economies or create conflicts. This is not leadership. This is psychological hostage-taking.
But here’s the thing: every one of his claims falls apart the moment they leave his lips. It’s not even difficult. You don’t even need a fact-checker – logic and basic knowledge will suffice mostly.
The Myth of an “Alien Invasion”
Trump loves the words “invasion” and “illegal aliens”. Combined, they cultivate B-movie dread and panic. The use of these terms is designed to trigger fear, anger, and division. Fear of invasion, fear of aliens. Ray guns and voodoo powers that will destroy us. They’re coming. They’re coming for you, your jobs, your women and your children. Manufactured terror and alarm. Powerful, potent and effective.
Let’s be honest, Europe isn’t being “invaded.” Yes, migration is happening – often in large numbers – in 2022, 5.1 million immigrants came to the EU from non-EU countries. These are indeed huge numbers. But let’s put it in context – that’s against a European population of approximately 745 million. So immigration would constitute less than 1% of all the people! Additionally, in 2024, migration into the European Union saw a 38% decrease in irregular border crossings, hitting the lowest level since 2021 (when it was 2.4 million).
And let’s not forget why people are fleeing to Europe – yes, many of them are economic migrants believing our streets are paved with gold, just as Dick Whittington did (coming over here, bringing his cat, eating all our rats!). Besides these fools, others come simply to be with family already here.
But mostly there are people fleeing war, famine and human rights atrocities. And more often than not, the wars, instability, and economic collapse they are fleeing are caused or worsened by Western powers – including the U.S. and, historically (ahem…) Britain.
And let’s turn the mirror back on America for a bit, shall we? The country Trump leads is built almost entirely by illegal immigrants. If anyone is the “illegal alien” it’s the people who landed on America centuries ago without visas, without permission, and inflicted genocide on the indigenous population.
Native Americans never invited the settlers who ultimately wiped out their way of life. So let’s be honest – America has no moral high ground here. Just ask Big Chief Sitting Rock – oh no, you can’t, they killed him. And his entire family and wiped out his village, and his tribe.
Sharia Law in London? Ain’t no Fatwa for that!
Trump said: “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor – terrible, terrible mayor – and it’s been so changed, so changed. Now they want to go to Sharia law. But you are in a different country. You can’t do that.”
At least he got the last part of that right. You can’t do that – even Sharia Law doesn’t require the imposition of Sharia Law on non-Muslims in a non-Muslim country. Let that sink in for a minute so we can be clear on this.
As such, claims about the introduction of Sharia law in London are utter nonsense. Sharia, outside of Islamic countries, applies only in narrow matters like marriage, inheritance, and death for Muslims themselves. It’s about community guidance, not rewriting national law. Hence, you may have heard of so-called “Sharia courts” even here, but these are only a meeting of experts in jurisprudence to address family matters among Muslims.
As a Muslim, I have to tell you, the idea of imposing Sharia on a non-Muslim society makes no sense – and no Muslim community in Britain is campaigning for that. Sharia law could only ever be enforced in a Muslim country – and it isn’t even in some of those!
This is classic fear-mongering: paint Muslims as the scary bogeyman to keep people divided.
Climate Change is Real – Even for Petrolheads
And then there’s climate change. Trump called it a hoax, the “greatest con ever.”
Make no mistake, I’m a die-hard petrolhead – cut me and I bleed octane. I love cars, engines, the smell of burning rubber and everything mechanical. But even I can see the evidence. London summers are hotter every year. Wildfires rage across Europe and America. Floods and hurricanes strike with frightening frequency.
Denying human-caused climate change at this point is like denying we live on a round ball hanging in space. The reality is simple – between human industrial activity starting up in the mid-18th century and some devastatingly brutal and eruptive wars in between, it’s almost laughable to suggest that we haven’t done some damage to the planet – well, no, not so much the planet, but the delicate balance of the climate that preseves us – the fragile and pathetic humans that inhabit it.
To be fair, calls to “save the planet” do make me laugh. The Earth was here long before us, and will remain long after us. It’s the ecosystem that sustains us that we have managed to bugger up and are still doing so.
But not in equal proportion. The reality is that the UK accounts for less than 1% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions. The bulk of emissions comes from China, the United States, India and Russia. In overall terms, the country that’s contributed the most CO2 emissions since 1750 is…. the U.S. Well of course it is.
And yet leaders like Trump dismiss responsibility while the rest of us suffer the consequences. That’s not global leadership. That’s reckless to the point of gambling with billions – yes billions! – of lives, and further causing an even greater refugee crisis and immigration issues into the future.
Division at the United Nations
And to drive home the gravity of his statements in potentially one of the most crucial theatres of the world – a gathering of the representatives of the world’s leaders, let’s remember, this, the United Nations, is a place meant to bring the world together. Instead, Trump used his platform to divide, sow mistrust, and fuel hatred. He offers no solutions; he only plays the blame game.
As the son of legal immigrants to Britain, and as a Muslim, I simply can’t sit by while lies like this go unchallenged – even as the world moves to gently mollycoddle the world’s most dangerous overgrown baby.
The solution to our woes? I wish I knew. Sadly, while we all sit fragmented and at odds, driven to shout at and decry each other, or just plain go for the jugulars, herded and instructed by the nefarious powers-that-be, there cannot be any unity of thoughtful perspective, nor a route to a universally beneficial outcome.
Common sense feels in short supply these days. So all we can do in the meantime, I guess, is to try to keep setting the record straight. Because the alternative – silence – only lets the lies spread like a malignant virus through communities and humanity. I implore the right-minded to rise, and to speak up while you still can.
