First Look: All-New 2025 Toyota Aygo X Hybrid

Small Car, Big Leap! BrownCarGuy Exclusive Walkaround Preview – Now with Hybrid Power!

Some cars are like that mate who’s always around, never causes drama, but suddenly shows up with a fresh trim, a protein shake in one hand, and talks about going green. That, in essence, is the new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid. I got an exclusive sneak peek at the car in Brussels, where Toyota unveiled this cleverly updated version of their best-selling city car – now fully hybrid for the first time. And yes, I filmed a full walkaround, which you can watch below.

A Segment-First: Hybrid Power in a Tiny Package

Toyota has dropped in the 1.5-litre hybrid system (borrowed from the Yaris), specially tuned for the Aygo X. That means you get 116bhp0–62mph in 9.2 seconds, and up to 67.3mpg. That’s over six seconds quicker to 62mph than the standard petrol-only version, which is more tortoise than hare at 15.6 seconds.

Oh, and the CO₂ emissions? Just 86g/km – making it the lowest-emitting non plug-in car on the market right now. Big win for Toyota and a solid argument if you’re keen on keeping your footprint tiny.

Clever Packaging, Familiar Shape

Visually? It’s not wildly different from the current Aygo X. The wheelbase remains the same at 2,430mm, and interior space is unchanged – which means it’s still a squeeze in the back for those over 6ft (like me). But Toyota’s engineers have done some clever rejigging: the hybrid battery packs are laid flat under the rear seats, and the front overhang is extended by 76mm to accommodate the drivetrain. Smart. Even the boot space stays intact at 231 litres.

Fresh Looks, More Style

The Aygo X Hybrid sports a new front end, redesigned grille, and updated headlights. Depending on the trim, you’ll find 17- or 18-inch alloys, black plastic cladding for that urban crossover vibe, and a bold bi-tone colour palette inspired by herbs and spices. I’m not even kidding – they’re called Cinnamon, Tarragon, Jasmine, and Lavender. And yes, there’s a Canvas Roof option if you want to catch some rays between Starbucks runs.

Inside: All the Toys

Inside, it’s surprisingly plush for an A-segment car. You get a massive touchscreen with Toyota Smart Connectwireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and even adaptive cruise controllane trace assist, and emergency driving stop – all part of Toyota’s beefed-up Safety Sense package.

Top trims (like the new Exclusive or GR Sport) offer goodies like a JBL sound systemheated seatswireless phone charging, and even nanoeX™ air purifiers. This thing’s more loaded than some luxury cars.

Meet the GR Sport – Spice Level: MAX

Yes, there’s now an Aygo X GR Sport. It’s got sharper suspension, tuned steering, GR alloy wheels, and a “G-pattern” grille. Plus a striking Mustard bi-tone paint job that looks ready to fight crime on a Saturday morning cartoon. Inside, sporty grey and black accents and embroidered GR logos keep the vibe alive.

Greener from Factory to Forecourt

Toyota’s taken sustainability seriously here. The interior uses new recycled and plant-based materials (like SakuraTouch with cork and PET blends), and the car is produced at their Czech plant powered by renewable electricity. Toyota reckons this version has an 18% lower lifetime carbon footprint than the current model.

Final Thoughts

So what do we have here? A compact crossover that’s more efficient, faster, smarter, and arguably cooler – especially with that GR Sport trim. It’s not a radical reinvention, but a very smart evolution that effectively employs hybrid tech. No prices yet – they’re coming later this year, with deliveries expected by the end of 2025. But if you’re a first-time buyer, urban commuter, or someone looking for maximum style and efficiency in a tight footprint, this could be the one.

Stay tuned for my full drive review as soon as I get behind the wheel!
