EVs Hit with Congestion Charges & New Licence Laws on the Horizon!
Prepare for major changes on the roads as draconian driver licence restrictions roll out, and EVs get slapped with London’s Congestion Charge starting in 2025. The rising costs of driving are dampening the driving spirit, and potholes continue to wreak havoc on our vehicles. The battle against motorists is intensifying, and it’s set to escalate with the upcoming government changes.
In a tragic turn of events, three young lives were lost in a car accident, prompting The AA to issue a press release right before the Mayoral Election. They’re advocating for a graduated licence system that would restrict young drivers from carrying passengers their age for six months post-licensing.
We delve into various restrictions facing motorists in this apparent ongoing War on Cars. From skyrocketing operational costs making 15% of drivers consider giving up driving, to severe road damage from potholes, and the upcoming financial burdens for electric vehicle owners in London—where driving will no longer mean avoiding the Congestion Charge or dodging the Vehicle Excise Duty (Road Tax), which will be implemented for EVs starting April 1, 2025, and congestion charges following on December 25, 2025.
