Apparently, buying a car you can afford could now qualify as betraying Britain. Particularly if that car is a Jaecoo 7 and you’ve had the audacity to enjoy its resemblance to something considerably more expensive. A Telegraph column suggests that motorists who cannot afford a Range Rover should accept their position in the financial pecking order and stop embarrassing themselves with a Chinese alternative. What the hell? Really?

If you felt a disturbance in the British automotive force this week, you weren’t imagining it. Gerry McGovern – the man who shaped the modern Range Rover empire and one of the most powerful design figures in the global car industry – has reportedly been fired from Jaguar Land Rover.

Multiple reports (Autocar, Top Gear, Financial Times) confirm that McGovern was removed suddenly, with some sources claiming he was escorted out of JLR headquarters in Gaydon. That alone tells you this wasn’t a polite reshuffle. This was decisive. Swift. Brutal. And historic.

All-new 2022 Range Rover revealed!

Great luxury and tech than ever for fifth gen Range Rover

It may look similar to the previous version, but over 50 years in the making, this is in fact, the all-new fifth generation Range Rover, which will also be the last to feature traditional ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) power units. Initially being made available with a series of six-cylinder petrol, mile-hybrid, plug-in hybrids, and diesel engines, as well as a BMW-sourced 4.4-litre V8, an all-electric version of this car will also be introduced in 2024. So much new technology has gone into this car that 125 patents have been filed.

The baby Evoque even adopted most of the Velar’s styling cues in its update a couple of years ago, but the Velar still looks fresh and is arguably more futuristic and sleeker than its bigger brothers, though remains as elegant as its elevated siblings.
