Going Green in Kia’s Third Best-Selling Car

The Kia XCeed may be part of the Ceed lineup – think of it as the crossover, body-on-stilts version of the Ceed hatchback (though only the front door panels are shared), but it’s actually also the dominant force. It has lead sales not only in the Ceed/XCeed range since it was introduced in 2019, but has surged to take the third best-selling spot in the entire Kia UK portfolio, behind the Sportage and Niro. That’s almost 10% of the company’s sales.

It makes sense. Korean companies Hyundai and now Kia, appear to be leap-frogging more recognised and established car makers in the race to create desirable, usable and quality electric cars. The 2022 Kia EV6 has just gone on sale, and is Kia’s version of Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 – kind of. Discrepancies in dimensions and battery packs, maintain sufficient distinction to present these as very different offerings.

Kia Picanto Review

Ignore this little car review and you’ll miss out big time!

The current Kia Picanto has been around since 2017, but last year it received a facelift and tweaks to its drivetrain. What we have here on test is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder car with just 66bhp, claimed to be capable of 100mph (though you’d need to be going downhill, with the wind behind your back, while slipstreaming another car to attain that). And at 14.1 seconds for the 0-60mph acceleration run, it’ll be beaten by one of those new London Taxis.
