Go Classics magazine – First time I take it out of the envelope and see the mag
Join me as I take this brand new magazine – issue one of Go Classics – out of the envelope and browse through it for the very first time – and why is this magazine so important? Because I’m a contributor to it – my column’s in there! It’s the first time I see it in print. And there’s a surprise!
In my last video I highlighted research by driver training outfit Zutobi on the lowest depreciating cars. But they also sent out a list of the cars that depreciated the most – now these are the ones to avoid buying new, but potentially are great bargains used.
Do you know the only downside of buying a brand new car? It’s the money you lose on it the moment you drive it out of a showroom. They depreciate like a rock chucked down a well. You can lose as much as 35% of the value of some cars in the first year alone!
Could cost you points, your licence, and 150% of a week’s salary
Slow down! Yesterday (2nd August) saw the beginning of a week-long operation by police and GEM Motoring Assist to target speeding drivers in England. GEM is a road safety and breakdown organisation. During the next few days of enhanced checks and enforcement, they’ll be handing out speeding tickets faster than quarantine pings in a pandemic.
Get past the grille and you’ll feel right at home if you’re a former Beemer owner
Let’s tackle that controversial grille first – you either hate it or you… reckon it’s not so bad. I’m in the latter camp, especially after spending a few days with the car, and noting that the UK number plate bisecting it, makes it far less overt and in-yer-face. Some may still complain that it’s elongated upright stance is unpalatable and at odds with traditional BMW styling cues, but there is a precedent for such grilles in BMW’s historical back catalogue. Anyway of all of BMW’s questionable styling choices, this is nowhere near as bad as the now legendary ‘Bangle Butt’ introduced on the 2000s BMW 7 Series – that some now hail as a pivotal moment in the marque’s design evolution – and I still really don’t like that!
