Volvo has been known for making the toughest saloons and the usable and handsome estate cars (wagons) of any manufacturer – and yet, Volvo UK has made the decision to kill them off in this market. What? Oh yes, watch this video now!
This is Volvo’s first all-wheel drive fully electric car, the EV version of the Volvo XC40 medium-sized family SUV that’s been around since 2018. The XC40 is available with other powertrains including a mild hybrid and full plug-in hybrid too. This electric XC40 Recharge was introduced in 2020, and while it may have been adapted to run as an electric car, rather than originating as an EV, it is worth mentioning that it shares its platform with Polestar 2 – which was launched as a fully electric car.

March 28th this year (2020) saw the 10th anniversary of Geely’s acquisition of storied Swedish car maker, Volvo. It bought the brand from Ford in 2010 for $1.8bn. The Chinese firm Geely, which itself was established in 1986 and only got into Automotive towards the end of the last century in 1997, then left Volvo to get on and do what it does best – build amazingly practical, solid and safe automobiles.
