Off-Roading the Jimny & V6 Vitara at Monster Mountain

Some days you just get handed a gift. An off-road playground. A couple of rugged Suzukis. And 55 years of 4WD history to dig into – literally.

That’s exactly what happened when Suzuki invited me to Monster Mountain, just outside Cardiff, to celebrate 55 years of Suzuki ALLGRIP four-wheel drive technology. This rough-and-ready quarry facility – now a motocross training ground for Suzuki ambassador and MX champion Geoff Walker – was the perfect terrain to unleash a couple of their finest go-anywhere heroes: the legendary Suzuki Jimny and a classic 2005 Grand Vitara V6.

Here’s my full written review of the Suzuki Jimny

I have been waiting two years to do a full review on the new Suzuki Jimny. It’s had people lining up around the block to get one since its launch in 2018, thanks to the adorable, yet too-cool-for-cute looks that make it appear tough yet tonka toy-like. It’s akin to a mini Mercedes G-Wagen and in fact you can get body kits that convert it to look like one – they love those in the Middle East.

Oh Lord – let this be my Groundhog Day! No less than NINE iconic cars driven at the annual Southern Group of Motoring Writers (SGMW) Heritage Day at Beaulieu National Motor Museum. And some I never got around too: Classic Mini, Citroen Traction Avant, Vauxhall Viscount, Classic Ford Transit van, Citroen BX GTI, plus a couple of hot BMW M cars, the Bullitt edition new Ford Mustang, and yet still more.
