Billionaires Have Rejected Electric Cars. Here’s Why Luxury EVs Are Tanking

The people who can afford anything appear to be choosing something else

A funny thing has happened on the road to electrification. Along the way, someone assumed that the future of luxury motoring would be silent, seamless and battery powered, that the world’s wealthiest buyers would lead the charge into a brave new era of zero-emissions indulgence, and that once the millionaires and billionaires embraced electric cars, the rest of us would naturally follow faithfully in their tyre tracks. It sounded plausible enough. After all, if anyone could afford the latest technology, it would be the people who think nothing of dropping the price of a semi-detached house on a weekend toy.

Are Modern Cars Too Fast for Public Roads?

Family SUVs and electric crossovers now hit 60mph quicker than yesterday’s supercars, and that should make all of us pause

Here’s a slightly terrifying thought. Your neighbour’s school-run SUV may now be quicker to 60mph than the poster cars many of us grew up worshipping. That sounds ridiculous, until you look at the numbers. A Tesla Model S Plaid claims 0-60mph in 1.99 seconds. The MG4 XPower, a relatively affordable electric family hatchback, does 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds. The Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor hits 60mph in 3.7 seconds, while the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N manages 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds. Even petrol has joined the madness, with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT claiming 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds.

RoboCop Is Already Policing Our Roads – How AI Judges Drivers

AI traffic cameras were just the beginning. Around the world, machines are now judging how you drive – and once the system decides, there’s no arguing back

Remember when getting pulled over went a bit like this… You’d clock the flashing lights, feel your stomach drop, rehearse your apology, and then hope – just hope – that the officer was having a good day. Maybe you’d get a telling-off. Maybe a warning. Maybe, if the stars aligned and Mercury was in retrograde, you’d get sent on your way with a “take it easy, mate”. Yeah, about that…

AI Told Me the Truth About the Future of Cars and Driving. Should Petrolheads Panic?

A calm AI voice told me driving would survive, but it felt oddly like being reassured by someone reading the instructions for a Temu lawnmower

So I’m driving along, in a plug-in hybrid test car, contemplating important matters like the fate of petrol stations, why people keep buying grey cars and what it would be like if we couldn’t drive anymore. This scenario would, of course, unfold at the advent of an AI era that removed the necessity to pedal and steer a vehicle, handing such duties to sensors, cameras, radars, lidars, a computer brain and, naturally, the all-seeing mysterious Cloud.

So I thought, you know what, let’s ask it. Let’s put to it the big, existential questions about cars, freedom, petrolheads and whether the steering wheel is about to join fax machines and Sony Walkmans in the museum of things we most miss.

Is Zohran Mamdani Anti-Car? What New York’s Motorists Need to Know

The Mayor doesn’t drive, but he’s steering New York’s future – and motorists might not like where the road’s heading

When a man who doesn’t even drive becomes the Mayor of New York City, you just know things are about to get interesting. Zohran Mamdani’s victory has made waves across the world – not just because he’s the first Muslim, first brown and first African-born mayor in NYC’s history, but because he represents something much bigger: a changing philosophy about how cities are built, who they serve, and – crucially for us car lovers – whether there’s still space for motorists in the urban future.

Now, before you reach for your pitchforks or your petrol can, let’s take a calm, and rational look at what this actually means for drivers.

Are YOU Ready to Give Up the Wheel? Driverless Cars Will Hit Our Roads in 2026!

The age of autonomous vehicles is almost here – but are we truly ready to surrender control and let go of the wheel? Here’s what you need to know.

When I started out in this game, being a motoring journalist was always about one thing: driving the cars. The thrill of the exhaust note, the response at the helm, the performance, the grip, the grip of the wheel, the subtle (unspoken) communication between machine and man – that’s where the magic was. That’s what we, as automotive content creators, have always aimed to convey to you – the audience, the readers, the viewers. What makes a car good, unique, special… or even downright dreadful?

But now… it seems that very role (our very reason for existence as petrolheads?) might be under threat.

In Defence of the Car & Debunking the Case Against!

Why the Anti-Car Narrative is Misguided, Misjudged, and Misinformed – Everything You NEED to Know

We’ve all heard it. The endless noise from the anti-car crowd. “Ban the car!” “Cars are killing the planet!” “15-minute cities will save us all!” And if you dare to question this gospel, you’re apparently some kind of oil-chugging, soot-snorting Neanderthal standing in the way of human progress.

But let’s pause for a second, take a breath (clean air, of course), and actually examine the case against the car – and then, calmly and rationally, dismantle it like a Haynes manual breakdown. Because the reality is this: the car isn’t the problem. In fact, the car has been one of the greatest enablers of freedom, opportunity, and progress in human history. And it still is.

Forget Low Mileage: Drive Your Cars Now Before It’s Too Late

Drive Them While You Still Can!

In a world where technological advancements are rapidly changing the way we view driving, the concept of keeping a low mileage car has become increasingly outdated and wasteful. As a passionate car enthusiast, I believe it’s time we re-evaluate our approach to car usage. Low mileage cars are a mistake. We should be driving our cars more than ever before!
