They are quite simply, like no other Car of the Year awards, because they don’t have to conform to categories or even a set number of accolades – last year we had 12 winners, this year only 10.

We’ve all looked longingly at birds in flight and wished we could soar free from the constraints of this Earthbound fate, swooping and levelling, twirling and revelling, flying high and diving low, but what about the other way around?
New car show that’s not Top Gear or Clarkson on Amazon! It’s us – Motoring Middle East, and we’ll be on GearOne TV in the Middle East and North Africa region from tomorrow night (UAE time 8pm).
Several meetings, a lot of driving, a bit of photography and a late night radio show. After a long hard day like this, I’m normally exhausted and a little bit fed-up and down.
Instead I’m buzzing and the adrenalin is still flowing. Cars can make all the difference to petrolheads.
