Picture it: rows of gleaming chrome, that nostalgic smell of petrol and leather, and the unmistakable chatter of classic car fans, congregating around an open bonnet outdoing each other with facts and trivia. It’s the NEC Classic Motor Show, a slice of paradise for any petrolhead. But as Ralph Hosier and I walked the halls this year, an unsettling thought crept in – could we be witnessing the last breaths of classic car culture as we know it?
It’s been quite a few years since Imthishan Giado and I last sat down for a good, old-fashioned chat. As former business partners and good friends, we’ve shared countless memories during our time at Car Middle East and Motoring Middle East. Yesterday, we found ourselves in a sunny corner of London, reminiscing about the good old days and reflecting on how the car culture in the UAE has evolved over the years over a cup of coffee.
Our second ever podcast features special guest Simeon Cattle (Sim) who’s been working in the car trade since the age of 16. He runs the Classic Project Shop and along with GoClassics Editor-at-Large Jeff Bailey, we talk about about running and working on classics, the little tips and secrets most people don’t know about, and how knowledge of working on old cars is being passed down to a new generation. Plus we talk about the Goodwood Revival and quiz Jeff on his two extraordinarily different previous car choices – a Vauxhall Nova and a Lincoln Continental!
