ULEZ News Update – 24 March 2023

What the BBC website really has to say about the ULEZ Expansion in August

In my latest ULEZ News Update, I look at what MSM (Main Stream Media) or in this case, the BBC in particular, really say about ULEZ. Turns out there is a page on the BBC News website, that is surprisingly fair and frank in its assessment. Perhaps there is hope after all. Now if only they’d come and cover the protests! See the page here

Did I win?!

Newspress Auto Industry Media Awards 2022 Vlog

Did I win? Check out my Vlog from the Newspress Live Event and 2022 Automotive Media Industry Awards. I was shortlisted for the Best Video of 2021 category. Newspress said about me: “…knowledgeable and likeably geeky approach. He drifts between thoughtfully produced and erratically esoteric!” Went up there in my 1989 BMW E30 325i SE two-door coupe – and that became something of an adventure itself! Watch this and don’t forget to follow #BCGBMWE30 #NewspressAwards

Toyota Yaris Cross Review

It’s the little Yaris for grown ups!

This is the Toyota Yaris Cross, which is more than just a jacked-up Yaris, but less than an actual SUV, more crossover and hence ‘Cross’. It may look very different and certainly feels bigger, but it’s actually built on the same platform as the current Yaris, but then so is the Prius. It doesn’t lack presence, particularly in the Bi-tone brass gold of the test car. The styling is quite angular, with a surprisingly blunt and somewhat aggressive front end.

Kia EV6 Full Review

Full written and video review of the all-new Kia EV6 in both RWD and AWD guises

It makes sense. Korean companies Hyundai and now Kia, appear to be leap-frogging more recognised and established car makers in the race to create desirable, usable and quality electric cars. The 2022 Kia EV6 has just gone on sale, and is Kia’s version of Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 – kind of. Discrepancies in dimensions and battery packs, maintain sufficient distinction to present these as very different offerings.

2022 MG ZS EV

Better Styling & 273 mile range!

Check out the new updated MG ZS EV and it looks rather neat at the front. They’ve done away with the grille altogether with a concept car style stamped-effect fascia. It gets a new 72kWh battery pack which improves the range from 163 miles to 273 miles – which is impressive. But a 51kWh battery will also be offered with a 198 mile range, which is still better than before.

Kia Sorento Review

It’s big, it’s bold, it’s…bravely priced!

This is the all-new fourth generation Kia Sorento 7-seater large SUV. Forget the previous editions, some of which weren’t the best looking SUVs around let’s be honest. Forget what you remember of the quality of the early models. Forget delicate tech and fragile fabrics of history past. In fact forget everything you thought you knew about the Kia Sorento. Prepared to be wowed by the Korean car company’s latest offering.

Land Rover Defender 90 P400 & P300 On and Off-Road Review

Driving the new Defender 90 in top and entry spec on road, track off road!

Here’s the first review of the new Land Rover Defender 90. I know what you’re thinking, surely the new Defender has been out a while already? Indeed, and with some success. The Defender 110 clocked up 4500 sales in July, one of the best months ever for the company – under pressure from the pandemic and slowing export sales – but that’s the four-door long-wheel base version. The two-door edition was delayed.

You Won’t Believe The Classic Cars I Found in the Sharjah – #FBF Video

Yes a Lamborghini Urraco, Mercedes, Porsche, a couple of Opel GTs and a 2CV

#FlashBackFriday – Some of our most popular vides on the Motoring Middle East YouTube channel were when we just went out to search for interesting cars abandoned or for sale at random. This was a popular video when I went to then new (2016) Sharjah used car complex and managed to find a couple of Opel GTs, a 2CV and even a Lamborghini Urraco along with some other classics. I did a Facebook live (incorporated into this video) at the time, and I believe that was ripped and circulated going viral in the Middle East and South East for a while.
