Imagine this: you’re skulking through a dodgy back alley, and a shadowy figure in a hoodie whispers, “What do you need? A four? A six?” Desperately, you respond, “No, mate, I need an eight. Give me an 8 – and fast!”
Right, so the government, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that what we really need is yet another way to tax the poor, put-upon and downtrodden British motorist.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan, has expanded the ULEZ – Ultra Low Emission Zone – to cover the whole of Greater London right up to the M25 in some places, from 29th August 2023 (See first pinned video below), making London the largest low emission zone in the world.

So this weekend, I was at the fantastic West London Classics Show and Shine car event in Southall. Chatting with a few folks there, the topic of the proposed paving tax for London households came up. Their reactions indicated utter confusion and disbelief. Clearly, this news hasn’t reached everyone yet, so I figured I’d do a video about it.
It has begun! Barely five days after the new Labour government took power, we’re already seeing the early signs of what many, including myself, have been warning about for years. The dreaded pay-per-mile road user charging system is no longer a distant threat but a looming reality. This development isn’t just a hypothesis from a fictional narrative in my book The ULEZ Files (which predicts PPM implementation in London in the year 2026) but this is a tangible shift happening right now – potentially turning my fiction into our fact!
Well, it’s looking more and more like Keir Starmer and the Labour Party will be taking the reins come the next election in July 2024. Even the Conservatives seem to have thrown in the towel, practically conceding defeat already. The Tories are doing so poorly that there’s chatter about them not even being the main opposition. Can you imagine? But let’s leave that circus aside and get down to what really matters: what does all this mean for us motorists?
I thought I was done talking about ULEZ, but here we are again. The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London has popped back into the news, and for good reason. With the UK general election just around the corner, electioneering is in full swing, and both major parties are making big promises. But the latest from the Conservatives has really caught my attention – and not in a good way.
I didn’t want to make this video. I hoped I wouldn’t need to. But several people have asked for my response to the potentially catastrophic London 2nd May 2024 Mayoral election result for any Londoners that own and drive cars. What do I think of what happened? What do have to say about it? It’s in this video. I’ll say it now and that will be the end of it. The fight for motorists’ rights failed and failed miserably. This is democracy. The results have to be accepted.
