Well, that escalated quickly.
Never a dull moment when Donald Trump is back in the big chair, eh? Just when we thought the UK motor industry might be clawing its way back from the brink – along comes a good old-fashioned trade shocker from across the pond.
So, we left the EU. Regardless of where you stood on Brexit – whether you were marching in the streets waving a Union Jack or rolling your eyes at the telly – the idea was simple, right? Take back control. No more Brussels telling us what to do. But now, in an almost Monty Python-esque twist, it seems EU motoring laws are quietly creeping back in through the exhaust pipe.
Usually, when you arrive at a media drive event for a new car, you’re greeted by some PR, there may or may not be a presentation, and then you jostle with the other journos for some keys and take the new car for a drive. However, BYD did things a little differently for the launch of its new Sealion 7 electric family SUV.
Just when you thought The Grand Tour had driven off into the sunset, the legendary trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are back once again! But this time, it’s not very grand, and there may not be much Touring – at least, not according to the title of the new show.
Car S.O.S. (Car Sausage) is back for a brand-new Series 13, and once again, I had the absolute pleasure of catching up with the legends themselves – Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townshend in an exclusive interview, in which we covered everything from the cars on the show, the celebs involved (including the one that said ‘no’!) and Tim’s mid-life crisis and hair dye fiasco!
The car industry seems to be in a constant state of flux these days. Electric vehicles are taking over, regulations are tightening, and traditional petrol-powered fun seems to be on the chopping block. But while many manufacturers are scrambling to figure out their future, Toyota – the world’s biggest car company – has made a bold decision: they’re bringing back the fun!
Have you ever watched a slow-motion crash? That agonising moment where you can see exactly what’s about to happen, but there’s no stopping it? That’s Stellantis right now—an automotive behemoth with a brand portfolio so vast it should be unstoppable. Instead, it’s lurching towards disaster, dragging some of the most beloved car marques with it. Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Dodge, Chrysler, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Opel, and Vauxhall—this should be an empire, but instead, it feels like a sinking ship, a giant cargo vessel colliding head-on with an iceberg. And the worst part? They seem utterly clueless about how to stop it.
