When the Years Catch Up: A Birthday Reflection

I’ve hit another birthday and, I’m feeling it. The gearbox creaks, the mirror has issued advisories, and even the birthday cake looks like it is mocking me.

This year brought something different. A strange cocktail of aches, nostalgia, doubt, rage at the world going mad… and a flicker of hope that refused to die. In my latest piece, I dug into all of it. The humour, the darkness, the honesty, the fear, the spark – it’s all here.

If you’ve ever looked at a candle on a cake and wondered whether to blow it out or smash it, you’ll probably relate.

Have a read, have a laugh, maybe even nod in painful recognition.
