Petrolhead ≠ Politically Incorrect: I don’t Rev for the Right, but nor do I Line-Lock for the Left!

Some people seem to think that if you enjoy the sound of a V8 and the smell of burning rubber, you’re automatically a flag-waving fossil-fuel fanatic. Apparently, car passion now comes with a political side order.

Well, I’ve had enough of that nonsense. I don’t rev for the Right, and I don’t line-lock for the Left. I just love cars – always have, since the days I’d stare through the school fence at Cortinas and Capris rolling by, dreaming of freedom, motion, and mechanical beauty.

In my latest column, I take on the lazy stereotypes that have tarred car lovers as climate deniers and culture warriors. I explore why car enthusiasm has become politicised – and why it’s time to reclaim it as what it truly is: art, community, joy, and common sense on four wheels.
